The first of its kind in Australia, the Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice (AYAH) offers respite care, symptom management and end of life care to individuals aged 16-24 with life limiting illness. This specialised care extends to patients’ families, including bereavement support, counselling and accommodation.
Now I couldn’t think of anything harder to go through and we wanted to give back by offering our support to the Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice in caring for their patients and their families. We do this by helping to provide a brief respite for either the patient or family members, giving them priority access to our services at a highly discounted price. I believe in the power of giving back and this may only be a very small impact but it could make a huge difference to someones daily battle. If I can help just a handful of people feel relief, I can rest easier at night!
